BIOTEC USA Washington DC: How to Choose Functional Beauty Products for Your Skin

Updated: Sep 30
Choosing skincare products can feel overwhelming, especially as your skin changes through different stages of life. I have helped clients in Washington DC make these choices since 1991, and the question I hear most is simple: which products are right for me?
At BIOTEC USA, I formulate every product myself. My approach follows one guiding idea: "We like simplicity, people like results." In this guide, I will share how I help clients choose functional beauty products for their skin type, concerns, and daily routine.

Why I Formulate Functional Beauty Products
Functional beauty means every product has a clear job for your skin, not just a pleasant texture or scent. My formulas are original, not private label, and each one is designed around what I see in my treatment room every day.
Functional skincare can help to:
Hydrate and help skin hold moisture
Smooth the look of fine lines and wrinkles
Improve the look of skin texture and tone
Leave skin looking brighter and more even
The same thinking guides my makeup line: products that give you coverage and color while fitting into a skin-friendly routine.
How to Choose the Right Products for Your Skin
The right routine starts with your skin, not with a product list. These are the four questions I ask every client.
1. What is your skin type?
Dry skin needs richer textures that help hold moisture. Oily or combination skin usually does better with lighter serums and gentle cleansing. Sensitive skin calls for fewer products and simple formulas.
2. What is your main concern right now?
Choose one or two priorities, such as dryness, dullness, fine lines, or uneven tone. A routine that tries to address everything at once often does less for each concern.
3. How much time will you really spend?
A simple routine you follow every day works better than a complicated one you skip. For most clients, a cleanser, one serum, and a moisturizer is enough to start.
4. Has your skin changed recently?
Skin changes with the seasons, with age, and with life events. Many clients need a richer cream in winter and a lighter texture in summer. Reviewing your routine a few times a year keeps it working for you.

Pairing Products with Facials
Products and professional facials work best together. A facial gives your skin a deeper cleanse and a boost of hydration, and the right home routine helps keep that fresh, glowing look between visits.
During each facial, I look at how your skin is responding and adjust your home routine if needed. My facials range from deep-cleansing facials with extractions to the luxurious Caviar and Truffle Facial.
